Keep proof of every spam text and call. See which ones may count.

If a company breaks the rules, the law may let you ask for $500 for each text or call. Tetherless shows which ones might count.

What it doesn't do

  • It doesn't stop the messages. It keeps the proof.
  • It doesn't send anything. You choose what happens with each letter.
  • It can't stop scammers or get back money you lost.
  • It's not a law firm, and it isn't legal advice.
  • Is this number mostly for work? If so, messages to it may not count.

Free for your first 25 messages. No card needed to start.

What courts say about texts

Courts don't agree on whether texts count under this law. One federal court said no for Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin, and some other courts agree. Phone calls aren't part of that ruling. The $500 assumes texts count. Talk to a lawyer before you send a letter or go to court. No lawyer? A legal aid office may help for free.

Write a letter for you to read?

A letter to Sunvale Home Energy LLC. It isn't sent.

Example only. The company is made up.

How it works

Three steps. You can stop at any one.

The hard part is keeping good proof. Tetherless does that for you, from the first message on. You don't need a lawyer to use it.

  1. 01

    Save it

Add a screenshot (a picture of your screen), or paste the text. For a call, add a picture of your call list. You can also add phone bill records. If you replied STOP, save that too.

  2. 02

    Check it

We check each message against the federal law. We show if it may count and why. We also look for the company behind it.

  3. 03

    You decide

If you want, we write them for you to read: a proof packet, a letter to the company, small claims court forms for your state and a report to the government. None of them are sent. You choose what happens with each one.

Each message shows if it may count and why. We lock each screenshot so any change would show. Messages that don't count stay saved, with the reason.

What we checked

  • We found the company from public business records and the links in its texts
  • It's not on your list of companies you said yes to
  • Your number was on the Do Not Call list for over 31 days
  • They sent more than one message within 12 months
  • Their "you're unsubscribed" reply came within minutes of your STOP, so it shows $0
  • Later messages came after the 10 business days a company gets to stop after you reply STOP
Amounts

4 × $500. 3 came after your STOP.

We only count what really happened

The law protects people from messages they didn't ask for. Tetherless is made to keep proof of that, and nothing more.

You don't need one to use Tetherless. If your AI helper can connect to other apps, just tell it what happened. It passes the message to Tetherless.

  • Save a text and your STOP reply from the chat
  • Ask where things stand, in plain words
  • See what it's allowed to do, and turn it off any time
  • It can write a letter for you to read. Only you decide what happens to it.

Questions

Questions people ask

Will this stop the messages?

No. Tetherless keeps the proof. It doesn't block texts or calls.

The free Do Not Call list can help with sales calls from real companies. Scammers ignore the Do Not Call list.

Do I get paid, and who pays?

We can't promise money, and many messages won't count. Any money would come from the company, not from us. We don't take a cut.

A company may pay after a letter, or a judge may order it to pay. A company may also ignore you. You might get nothing.

Can I get in trouble?

Saving messages here doesn't contact anyone. Tetherless doesn't send anything. Only add messages you really got, and keep your list of companies you said yes to correct.

If you send a letter or go to court, the company may answer. We can't say what it will do. If you're worried, talk to a lawyer first. No lawyer? A legal aid office may help for free.

Do I have to go to court?

No. You can stop at any step. You can save proof and do nothing else.

If you do choose to go, small claims court is made for people who go without a lawyer. Tetherless can write the forms for your state for you to read.

Do I need a lawyer?

Not to use Tetherless. But talk to a lawyer before you send a letter or go to court. Also talk to one if things get complicated or you aren't sure you have a claim. Your record and proof packet are made to be easy to hand over.

No lawyer? A legal aid office may help for free.

What does a letter do?

A letter asks the company to pay the amount the law may allow. It isn't a lawsuit. The company may ignore it.

Tetherless writes it for you to read. It doesn't send it. You choose what happens next.

Is it safe to reply STOP?

Only reply STOP to a company you know. If it looks like a scam, don't reply and don't tap any links. A reply can tell a scammer your number is real.

Not sure? Don't reply. You can still add the text to Tetherless.

Does it work for calls?

Yes. You can save phone calls and voicemails as well as texts. Add a screenshot of your call list, or your phone bill records. You can also type in the number, day and time, but a letter needs a screenshot or a matching phone bill record too.

The court ruling about texts isn't about phone calls. The same Do Not Call rules apply: your number must be on the list for 31 days, and they must call you again within 12 months.

Is this number mostly for work?

If so, messages to it may not count. The rules we check are for home and personal phones. If you aren't sure, talk to a lawyer. No lawyer? A legal aid office may help for free.

What if it's a scam, or I lost money?

Tetherless can't stop scammers or get back money you lost. If you lost money, report it at ReportFraud.ftc.gov. If money left your bank or card, call your bank or card company too.

Don't reply to the message, and don't tap any links.

Does Tetherless read my texts?

Only the ones you add. It can't see your phone or your other texts. You add a screenshot, paste a message or add your phone bill records, and you stay in control.

When you add a screenshot, our software reads the words in the picture. Add Tetherless to your phone and it takes a few taps.

How do I get on the Do Not Call list?

It's free at DoNotCall.gov, or by calling 1-888-382-1222 from the phone you're registering. Only you can do it, and Tetherless walks you through it. Your registration doesn't expire.

Sales calls can take up to 31 days to stop. Tetherless shows the date your protection starts. Messages before then won't count.

Do texts count?

Courts don't agree on whether texts count under this law. One federal court said no for Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin, and some other courts agree. Phone calls aren't part of that ruling. The $500 assumes texts count. Talk to a lawyer before you send a letter or go to court. No lawyer? A legal aid office may help for free.

The law is called the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA). In July 2026, a federal appeals court ruled in Steidinger v. Blackstone that a text isn't a "telephone call" under the part of the law that lets people ask a court for money over the Do Not Call rules. Other courts have ruled the other way.

If you live in Illinois, Indiana or Wisconsin, a claim about texts may not work where you live. Tetherless warns you on any record with texts. Other laws may still apply to texts.

Why $500, and not $1,500?

The law may allow $500 for each message that breaks the rules. A judge could raise it to $1,500 if the company did this on purpose.

That is a judge's choice, based on the facts. So Tetherless never counts on it. We lead with $500. We only show $1,500 as what a judge could do, and only for messages sent after your STOP.

What if I signed up for their messages?

Then those messages don't break the rules, and Tetherless won't count them. Add the company to your list of companies you said yes to, and we leave its messages out. If you later reply STOP, we only look at messages sent after that.

What does it cost?

Free covers your first 25 messages. Pro is $12 a month or $96 a year with no limit on messages. Firm is $990 a year, for law firms. Cancel any time. We don't take a cut.

Reached 25 on Free? What you saved stays saved. To add more, you'd pay.

If you choose to mail a letter, the mailing cost is yours. If you choose to go to court, the court charges its own fee.

Is this legal advice?

No. Tetherless is software that keeps your proof and writes drafts for you to read. It's not a law firm and it isn't legal advice. Using it does not create an attorney-client relationship. That means no one at Tetherless is acting as your lawyer.

What happens to my messages and details?

We use your messages, screenshots and records to keep your record, and for nothing else. We don't sell them or use them for ads. We don't share them for referrals unless you say yes for that record. Nothing goes to a company, a court or the government unless you say yes to that exact document. See the privacy page.

Keep the proof. Decide what to do with it.

Free for your first 25 messages. Tetherless doesn't send anything.
